Hapazard reintroductions of rare or extinct species by enthusiasts is a growing issue in the UK, as recently reported in National newspapers (Illegal reintroductions of rare butterflies to UK ‘a risk to other species’ | Butterflies | The Guardian). Opinion seems to be divided on whether this is a good or bad thing. Certainly, there have been notable successes with reintroductions, such as the Large Blue and a handful of other species, but it certainly raises concerns for assessing natural ranges, and for the mixing of populations. Thoughts?

Definitively a relevant issue. Thanks for sharing!
Personally, I’m not against reintroductions, as long as they’re done by professionals that had taken all the time to analyze the consequences of such actions.
I really think it should be decided on a case by case basis and under an strict precautionary approach
