How to distinguish between commas? Eastern, Gray, Green, Questionmarks?? All have been seen early this season in the northeast. The AI seems confident, but on the basis of topsides only, i dont see how she can be.
Question Marks and commas have a different number of black spots on the upperside of the forewing. And Green Commas have deeply curved wings. So it’s possible in many cases. Doesn’t mean the algorithm is going to be right though…

Thanks. In the first two weeks of April, P. progne, comma and faunus have been reported from the northeast and Canada. Not sure I can make the difference on forewing spots alone. Surely this is pretty variable? And then the summer brood comes along . . .
